liebster award 2017

Last week, I was nominated for a Liebster Award. Well, the blog was but I’m just gonna go ahead and steal all the glory ‘cause I can c: I’ve been keeping it a secret until I could write about it. Except, I spilled the beans to Shehryar ‘cause I couldn’t contain the excitement when I found out. But then I made him promise he wouldn’t tell anyone (he’s much better at this whole keeping secrets thing than me, obviously).

liebster award reaction
Me, upon finding out about the Award. This is not staged at all, duh. Also, I promise the Snapchat filter will make sense as you read on.

Before I go on, let me answer a question that may or may not have popped into your head (if you’re in the ‘may not’ category, please feel free to skip this part).

What exactly is a Liebster Award?

It’s the validation every new blogger dreams of. The award was created by the blogging community to recognise some of the best, up-and-coming blogs and is given by existing bloggers who have previously won the award themselves (if you feel like you’ve just read all the possible variations of the word ‘blog’, you’re probably right).

You don’t win a trophy or anything – just the satisfaction of knowing that someone saw the potential in your blog and found it worthy enough to nominate. The fact that it comes from another blogger makes it all the more special – who would better understand the everyday struggles that full-time blogging entails?!

My Nomination

I was nominated by Farah (Flora) who blogs at The Revert Muslimah about her journey as a Muslim revert and is based in Brunei. At the risk of sounding clichéd, I have to say that she’s one of those rare people who restore your faith in humanity. In the tiny time I’ve known her (about 3 weeks), she has managed to inspire me with her sincerity and generosity and then surprise me with this nomination out of the blue! My brain tells me she’s a keeper.

So, according to the Liebster rules, I now have to answer these 11 questions she has asked me. As a recipient of the award, I also get to ask my own 11 questions from the blogs I nominate hehe (*rubs palms together gleefully*).

Here we go:

Q) Who introduced you to blogging?

The internet. And just in case you’re wondering, blogging is not the only thing it’s introduced me to.

Q) Do you have a niche/theme for your blog, or do you go through various topics?

Couldn’t settle on a niche ‘cause my interests change as quickly as new Snapchat filters, except for a few constants (see, I told you it would make sense!).

Q) Have you joined any blogging communities/groups?

All of them!

Q) What/who inspires you to write/blog?

Everything and everyone in my life. No one is safe c:

Q) What are three things that need to be on your bucket list?

Write a book
Witness the northern lights and trek to Machu Picchu (these are just two off the travel bucket list which is never-ending)
Fly in a hot air balloon
Watch a Broadway musical

Oh sorry, did you say 3? I got a teeny bit carried away.

Q) If you could give one piece of advice to your 16-year-old self, what would it be?

Be proud of your weird, geeky side. Like seriously, tell everyone about your obsession with Harry Potter and Artemis Fowl and the hours spent listening to Mugglenet podcasts. And if they think you’re weird, they probably suck.

Q) What kind of social work would you want to get involved in?

Anything that involves women empowerment and cookies.

Q)Think of a person. Now think of something you would you say to them that you don’t dare to say in real life?

I want to say something like “this question is inapplicable to me because I say whatever I want to people in real life” but we all know that’s not true and I’m just trying to avoid this question.

Q) What is something that people will be surprised to know about you?

I wear a wig. Just kidding. I seriously can’t think of anything.

Q) If you could make a wish that will definitely come true right now, what would it be?

Um, can I be sneaky and ask for more wishes? No? Okay then, I’d ask for an all-expenses paid trip around the world.

As part of the rules, I can also choose to share 11 facts about myself but I feel like that would be an overdose of information about me. Plus, I think I’ve pretty much covered all ze facts in this section here.

That’s about it for now. I’ll be updating this post with my nominees in the coming weeks!

  1. It was great knowing about you and your blog. I don’t know the person is, whose name you’ve mentioned at the start of this post.

  2. Loved the read! It’s exactly how I imagined you would answer the questions, judging by our few conversations. And some of your blog posts that I’ve read before. It was great getting to know (and not getting to know) more of you from this post. Can’t wait to see the rest of this post with the nominees 🙂

    1. Hahaha! I love that – getting to know you and not getting to know you. You really are getting to know me, it seems 😉

    1. Thank you so much Amina! Please keep saying things like this and that positive energy will keep growing :p
