From his status as the 20th century’s first pop culture celebrity to the dramatic events that turned his life into a would-be movie plot, there are so many reasons for one to love Oscar Wilde. His indestructible spirit, his notoriously strong views, his ability to spot the ridiculous in the most serious of situations.
The list is endless.
I mean, I also share my birthday with him but that’s just a bonus reason for me!
“The Importance of Being Earnest” is one of his best-loved works and, arguably, the most quotable. Though first performed in 1895, Wilde’s writing is so relevant and identifiable to this day, you’d think it was the work of a contemporary playwright. Since I’ve been re-reading it (for the hundredth time), I thought I’d compile a list of some of my favourites quotes from the play and share it with you guys. I narrowed it down to 10, otherwise this would’ve been a never ending post!
