I’m not the only one who gets excited by the mainstream, commercial fare Hollywood churns out every year, right? Phew. Just checking. I mean, I’ve seen my fair share of films for intellectual stimulation. But sometimes, you just need pure entertainment. Mindless action. Explosions. Beasts with feelings. Batman. Y’know. The usual.
So anyway, now that we’re on the same page. Here’s my list of the top 5 movies that make me want to invest in some popcorn and movie tickets:
1) The Lego Batman Movie
A clever script peppered with tongue-in-cheek humour, some general light-hearted silliness and…Batman. If the trailer is anything to judge by, it seems like a movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously. And, if it’s following in the footsteps of The Lego Movie, then it’s definitely got the potential to be one of my favourites this year.
2) Beauty And The Beast
Yeah, I know. Call me sappy but I’m a sucker for Disney movies. Oh, and I love Emma Watson. Watching some of my favourite animated characters come to life on the big screen in a “tale as old as time” – what could possibly go wrong?
3) Guardians of the Galaxy 2
Superhero movies don’t get funnier than this. The motley crew led by Star Lord Chris Pratt returns in this sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy (I saw this 3 times, not ashamed to admit it). Fingers crossed that they haven’t ruined it by making a sequel. Though, if nothing else, tiny Groot might save the day.
4) Wonder Woman
Without indulging in any feminist debate and judging it purely on its entertainment value, this had to make its way to my list. And also, I’m in love with the dramatic music that plays every time she comes onscreen. Like when she showed up in Batman v Superman for the first time.
5) Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
I know, I know. They need to stop making these. This is the fifth one in the PoTC series. But it’s Captain Jack Sparrow, you guys. How can we not watch it? So many childhood memories associated with the earlier versions. I’m scared this one might not live up to the hype in my head. Even the poster looks dull, like it’s tired of making any effort. But oh well.
Which movies are you excited to watch this year? Let me know in the comments 🙂
I am SO excited for the Lego Batman movie, but I don’t want to see it with the kids LOL. I mean I do, but I want to go separately with just my hubby the first time.
Haha, I know what you mean! I don’t have any kids but I’m sure I’d feel the same way 😉
Honestly there is so much to watch out for this year! We’re going to be watching movies a lot, for sure. I cannot wait for the new Beauty and the Beast. Belle has always been my favorite princess.
Right! She’s one of my favourites too 🙂
The LEGO Batman movie looks awesome, even if it’s just to listen to Will Arnett voice Batman! I keep trying to get my 3yo into the original LEGO movie because I want him to be just as excited!
Haha aww! I really liked the original one as well. Though I felt that a lot of the jokes would’ve whizzed over the kids heads!
I am excited for almost all of these too! Guardians of the Galaxy 2 looks amazing, as does the Pirates movie. I will probably have to wait for them to be on blu ray though as I rarely get to the theater
Aw really? I wouldn’t be able to wait that long!
Excited for all of these except Wonder Woman. I just didn’t watch her growing up so she’s not really my superhero. 🙂
Yeah, that makes sense! 🙂
Guardians of the Galaxy and wonder woman are my top two on this list. There was another sci fi one I saw the trailer to but I can’t remember the name of it now. Looked amazing though!
Oooh, let me know if you remember which one! I love me some good sci-fi 🙂
Pirates of the Caribbean! YES!! I cannot wait!!!
Haha, it’s good to know you’re as excited as me!
I really can’t wait for Beauty and the Beast and my kids are dying to see the lego Batman movie!!
I am very much looking forward to watching Wonder Woman!! Also, I watched Dr. Strange a few days ago and it was so cool 🙂 Have you seen it?

Yes, I have! I loved it. I am a huge fan of Benedict Cumberbatch 😀
I am so excited to see Beauty and the Beast, We’re going to have a girls night out to go see it.
That sounds like the perfect plan! Now that you’ve planted this idea in my head, I might just do that too! 😀
We are on the same page! I can’t wait to see all of these! And the kids are excited for them too!
Yay awesome! Yeah, I feel like all of these are family movies too 🙂
I am actually looking forward to seeing these too! I dont get to watch movies often enough so I’ve made it a point to do more movie watching in 2017!
That’s awesome! Good luck with your plan 😀
My husband is excited for Lego Batman. I personally am most excited about Beauty and the Beast. And I didn’t even know they were making another Pirates movie, although I can’t say I’m too surprised. Thanks for the update of movies this year!
You’re welcome! Yeah, perhaps they’d be better off not making another Pirates movie but can’t help wanting to watch it hehe
All of these movies are like classics that could definitely be fun to see again and again and again! The Lego one would be a blast to see how its transformed with legos! And movies are all about popcorn, so count me in!
Haha I agree! That’s so true. I can’t sit through theatre movies without some junk hehe
Beauty and the Beast looks SO good!! I can’t wait to see it.
I know! Bringing back so many childhood memories. Though I kind of wish the Beast was a little scarier.
Yes, to all five of these movies! And would you believe I didn’t know about Pirates of the Caribbean, but now that I know, I must see it.
I know right! I’m not even sure if it’ll be any good but just because they’re making one I can’t help wanting to see it.
Guardians of the Galaxy!! I totally didn’t even know there was a sequel coming out, now I’m dead excited haha! Hurray! x
Haha, I loved the first one so much! I hope the second is just as good 😀
I am really looking forward to Logan – from the X-Men series. But, I am definitely looking forward to Beauty and the Beast as well! So is my daughter – it was our first movie at the theater when they re-released the cartoon, and now she is 8 and very excited about the live-action version!
Wow, that’ll be a meaningful mother-daughter experience 🙂 And omg yes! Can’t believe I forgot about Logan. That’s definitely on my list too!
My family and I looking forward to watching some of these movies. Especially Lego Batman, Wonder Woman, and Beauty and the Beast.
Awesome! Such a similar list 🙂
Hands Down I am ready for Beauty and The Beauty. Grew up on them and now I want to see the come to life!
Exactly! Same here 😀
Your list looks identical to mine! I can’t wait for Beauty and the Beast and am counting down the days to its release in theaters 3/17!!!
Haha awesome! It’s so fun to know other people are excited about the same movies 🙂
Oh I cant wait to see beauty and the beast! The graphics looks so amazing! A must to see IN the theater!
Exactly! I hope it’s as good as it looks in trailers 😀
Oh my goodness I cannot wait to go see Beauty and the Beast! We already bought our tickets!
Wow that’s awesome! You’re even more excited than me 😀
