Lush is one of my favourite beauty brands. Who doesn’t love the idea of fresh, handmade cosmetics that smell so good you wanna eat ‘em up?! But, there are two major problems I have with it:
- It’s not available in Pakistan. So that means you’ll find yourself begging distant relatives or friends or anyone you can think of (because desperation) to make a little space in their luggage while you use your dad’s credit card (hey, it’s not my fault banks don’t like me) to order it online.
- It’s kind of expensive. I mean, to be fair, when converted into our beloved currency, pretty much everything seems a lot more pricey but y’know. Can’t be earnin’ in rupees and spendin’ in dollars, son!
So when my Lush lip scrub recently ran out, I thought why not attempt making my own at home – can’t be rocket science, right? After going through lots of different versions online and a few failed experiments, I finally managed to get it right! And it’s a lot simpler than I anticipated (shh, let’s just keep that part to ourselves).
Strawberry Flavoured Lush-Inspired Lip Scrub
What You’ll Need:
1 tbsp super-fine granulated sugar
1 tsp edible olive oil
5-6 drops of strawberry flavouring
2 drops of pink food colour (gives a pretty pink tint to your lips!)
Step one
Add sugar and olive oil to a bowl and mix well.
Step Two
Add the strawberry flavouring, drop by drop, stirring it into the mixture.
Step Three
Colour it up! This was my favourite part – watching the ingredients take on a lovely pink tint. I used Rose Pink by Wilton.
Step Four
Pour into a small pot and get scrubbin’ for soft, pink lips that taste like strawberries 😉
Nice
I love to use these lip scrubs especially when I go for a matte lipstick.. I use my homemade lip scrub with honey but strawberry flavour is a good idea too 🙂
True! Matte lipsticks call for well maintained lips 🙂
I love this for the winter months!
Same here! 🙂
Adding this to my favorites! I’m from a country where there are no LUSH so I know the struggle. I can’t wait to try it out.
Aw, I’m so glad! Would love to hear how it turns out for you 🙂

Thank you so much for this diy. I always wondered how people make this scrub. I was thinking of buying one, but now I don’t have to.
PS. I am from Pakistan as well!
Yay! That’s awesome! So happy I could help 😀 Would love to hear how it turns out for you.
I love Lush products, but they can get pricey. I love the idea of making it myself and saving some money in the process.
Exactly! I’m trying to be more frugal so experimenting with a lot of DIY these days 🙂
OMG seriously?!? I had no idea it was so simple to make your own lip scrub. Thank you so much for sharing and I love the strawberry flavour idea. I mean you had me at strawberry

Ooooh – your scrub looks so super yummy! I would want to eat it! haha… And yes – I am all about LUSH but making your own is a fabulous idea!
Lol! Come to think of it, you actually CAN eat it if you’re in the mood for a sugar rush 😛
The best part? Pennies compared to the dollars! I think the color and flavor sold me! The cute container is so sweet, too.
Aw, thank so much! ^_^

This looks so easy. I love the lush lip scrubs but would love to make it at home. I bet a rose flavored scrub would be nice, too.

Love lip scrubs. I had no idea what they were until I received one as a stocking stuffer. I have got to make this!
I spent half my life not knowing what they were but now that I’ve discovered them, I can’t survive without them anymore lol!
That would be a great thing for me to have right now. My lips are chapped something terrible. The winter sure does a number on my lips.
I know! Winter plus those matte lip colours.
This would be so much fun to make with a group of little girls! What a great idea for a party!
That’s a great idea actually!
I love lip scrubs! I will have to try this!
Nice job recreating a homemade version of one of your favorite Lush lip scrubs! I could actually use this right now, as the winter weather has been so harsh on my lips. Can’t wait to try this!
Exactly! Winter really dries up my lips too and lip scrubs can be so helpful 🙂
I love that this is all natural and I’m sure smells/feels amazing on your lips! This would make a great Valentine’s Day gift for girls.
It does! And yes, that’s so true. Can definitely be a Valentine’s Day present idea 🙂
I’ve been getting into making most of my own things (toothpaste, deodorant, body butter…) now I’m excited to try this out for my own lip scrub! Thanks for sharing 🙂

I love that you came up with this out of necessity, but it is a great idea! Plus it is much more affordable than the Lush products! I will definitely be trying this!
Awesome! Would love to hear how it turns out for you 🙂
Ohhh this looks fun and easy to make! Lip scrubs are essential here in dry winters of the North East!
I LOVE LUSH! I’ve never tried a lip scrub from there though. I love how easy this sounds and seems like something I could do at home.
Yes! I love making my own lip scrubs! I must try this. I made one last with raspberries. It smelled so good! I bet yours smells amazing!
Ooh raspberries! I’m sure that must have been yummy!
So easy!! I’ve been thinking of making my own scrubs but didn’t know where to start. This is so simple.
This is such an easy item to make!! I love lip scrubs that are homemade and taste good haha. If you don’t have any allergies try it next time with some coconut oil 😉

I’ve always wanted to try a lip scrub.
Now that is such a great idea. I love using natural, homemade peoducts. Thanks for sharing. I can’t wait to try this out.
Lip scrub? It’s my first time hearing of it, but it looks like it’s fairly easy to make, so I’d give it a try
I love Lush lips scrubs and I like the way you presented a DIY version. You made it look really easy and a good replica of the product.
Thank you so much!
This looks so easy! I could use this right now. Chicago winters are harsh!
You should try it out! 🙂
