Last week, I shared with you the classic overnight oats recipe to help make your busy mornings a little less crazy. While I might be a fan of the classic oat flavour, I realise that for some of you, it’s not exactly the stuff dreams are made of. So this week, I did a little experimentation based on something I found on one of my favourite blogs. Add to that the fact that I’ve recently discovered an obsession with smoothie bowls (mostly just drooling over photos of them online) and that strawberry season is in full swing in Karachi, and you’ve got yourself today’s recipe.
Overnight Chocolate Oats with Banana-Strawberry Smoothie
This recipe makes for a filling and deliciously healthy breakfast, snack or dessert (3-in-1, yay!). And while I loved the mix of flavours balancing each other out, you could choose to just do one of the layers as a stand-alone snack. So without further ado, here’s what you need to do:
Rolled oats 1/2 cup
Yoghurt/milk 1/2 cup
Honey (as sweetener) 1/2 tablespoon
Cocoa powder 1 tablespoon
Frozen banana 1
Frozen strawberries 1 handful
A splash of milk
Yoghurt 1 tablespoon
Note: You can play around with the proportions depending on the kind of consistency you’d prefer
Put all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Cover and leave it in the fridge overnight to rest.
Add all ingredients to a blender and go nuts! I didn’t add any sweetener but you can add a dash of honey if you find it’s not sweet enough. Also, do NOT freeze the banana without peeling it. Been there, done that and lived to regret it -.- Also cut it up into small pieces. Same with the strawberries.
Let me know if you try it out and how it turns out! If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments 🙂
