Sugarcane juice just conceded its crown for my Favourite Summertime Drink to this dewy, tangy beverage called watermelon lemonade. Call me fickle (if you must) but it was easy to bid adieu to gannay ka juice once I discovered this lovely drink. I mean, I haven’t completely abandoned SCJ, of course. It’s just taken the backseat for now. And for good reason.
The best part about watermelon lemonade? You can make it yourself at home. And it’s easy. Which must have been evident from the fact that even I was able to make it. And also because most of the recipes I share on the blog can be followed by a 5-year old.
Before I share the recipe, here’s the story of how we met (I’ll keep it short, I promise):
I’ve always loved some well-refrigerated watermelon to cool down on hot, summer days. The sweet, juicy, understated flavour is the perfect antidote to the heat. But watermelon juice never quite made it to my list of faves. It always felt too sweet or too watery. Until it decided to get into a relationship with lemon. And now they’re my favourite couple. The End.
1/2 a medium sized watermelon, cut into pieces
1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/2 cup water
3-4 tbsp sugar (the watermelon I used wasn’t very sweet so I used more sugar, you can adjust depending on the sweetness of the watermelon)
1/2 tsp salt (optional)
Ice cubes (optional)
Try and remove as many seeds from the watermelon as possible. I know it’s kind of impossible to get rid of all of them. And really time consuming too. No one wants that kind of pressure in life. Then just put everything into a blender and blend until you’re happy with the texture. And that’s all. Told ya it was easy c:
